At the age of 22, Ramona Pierson was involved in a shattering accident that left her in a coma for 18 months and blind for 11 years. She had to relearn everything from breathing and smiling to walking and speaking. After Ramona’s arduous recovery, she devoted her life to understanding how people learn. As a result of her experiences, she remains relentlessly passionate about changing the way the world learns.
In 2012, Ramona met Declara co-founder, Nelson Gonzalez. They were brought together by a fervent belief that the traditional ways of learning leave people ill-equipped to master the skills they need to succeed today. They understood that people live in a world where all of humanity’s knowledge sits patiently at everyone’s fingertips, but that people needed a better way to connect with this infinite knowledge. Ramona and Nelson decided to do something about it.
So, they founded Declara, a company that uses intelligent big data technology to connect people to each other and to ideas. Rather than focus on traditional classroom-based formal learning, Declara mimics the way most people actually learn today-informally. Declara has invented an ingenious way of connecting people to the vast mountains of content, peers, and experts on the Internet.
Ramona and Nelson assembled a supportive group of investors who also believed that there was a better way to learn. Then, they began to build a team of inventive engineers, creative designers, brilliant data scientists, and innovative product managers who constructed the ideal social learning platform. This small and fiercely dedicated team spent long days and caffeine-fueled nights building a product that uses machine learning algorithms to surface pockets of expertise and subjects of interest-then delivers it to the most interested users. It allows people to spend less time searching and more time engaging. After only a few months, governments and educational institutions around the world adopted this social learning platform.
Declara’s users loved it; Ramona and Nelson knew they needed to do more.
On April 15, 2015, Declara opened its powerful platform to the public. Anyone can create an account and join Declara, a personal knowledge engine, to discover, collect, and share articles and videos. Declara is far from through with its mission, so please keeping visiting this blog for updates.
Never stop learning.
